July 08, Colombo: Sri Lanka Ministry of Foreign Affairs Wednesday confirmed the appointments of new envoys to five more countries.

The five nominees have received the concurrence of the respective receiving States and have been cleared by the Sri Lanka Parliamentary Committee on High Posts as well, Ministry spokesperson Mahishini Colonne said at the press briefing Wednesday. The respective Heads of Mission-designate are expected to take up their posts shortly.

Mr. S. Skandakumar, a former Group Chairman of the George Steuart Group has been appointed as the next High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to Australia.

Member of the Sri Lanka Foreign Service Dr. A.S.U. Mendis, currently the Charge d’affaires of the Sri Lanka Embassy in Japan, has been appointed as the next Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Kingdom of Bahrain.

Member of the Sri Lanka Foreign Service Mr. A. A. Jawad, the Additional Secretary of the Ministry in-charge of the West and UN Divisions has been appointed as the next High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to Canada.

The Acting Director General in charge of the East Asia & Pacific Division of the Ministry and Member of the Sri Lanka Foreign Service , Ms. M. Gunasekera has been appointed as the next Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Republic of Korea.

Member of the Sri Lanka Foreign Service Mr. M. K. Pathmanaathan, who is presently attached to the Deputy High Commissioner’s Office in Chennai, has been appointed as the next Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Oman. The Ministry earlier announced the appointments of nine out of the 33 nominees to fill vacant Heads of Mission posts in Sri Lanka’s High Commissions and Embassies overseas after receiving approvals from the respective countries.
